Gioco is one of Montreal’s most distinctive voices — a singer, songwriter and beatmaker whose sound bends rules as easily as it bends genres. Co-founder of alt.avoz and host of MTL Sauce Piquante Sound System, he moves through the city’s underground like a connector of worlds.
His music is an abstract collision: experimental industrial grit meeting Afro-rooted rhythms, with sparks of hip-hop, electronic futurism and raw street pulse. This unorthodox alchemy is why he carries the name The Abstractnaut — an explorer of sound, culture and emotion in their most fluid states.
Gioco’s greatest weapon is his vocal versatility: he can flip from R&B to dancehall to rap, weaving English, Spanish and French into a unique hybrid he calls “Esfranglish.”
He has shared the stage with Maluma, Gyptian, Konshens, JoryBoy, Fuego, Bubaseta, Systema Solar, Doctor Nativo and many more. His journey has brought him to festivals such as Ceremonia (CDMX), POP Montreal, St-Roch XP, Under Pressure, Wave Length, SONIDO Latin Fest, HHYDS and beyond.
A consistent force in Montreal’s independent music movement, Gioco has been behind events like Pachangón, uplifting artists and pushing multicultural creativity in a city where diversity isn’t a tagline — it’s life. Through his music, he sheds light on social and mental health realities, using rhythm as a bridge and voice as a compass.
Gioco is more than an artist.
He is a reminder that culture evolves, language bends, and cumbia’s future has many tongues.
